the Fourth O July
had a good 4th this year too. usually i'm at Cornerstone Festival for the 4th so i wasn't sure what i was gonna do around here, but Sean called me up and wondered about meeting up in Frederick for the fireworks there. cool! so i called Stefan and Judi to see what they were up to and they were going that way too. the only problem was the weather was calling for rain through the day and it almost kept Sean and family from driving up.... but in the end it all worked out. :-)
i drove down with Stefan and Judi in their new Scion Xb, which i like a lot. and we started our afternoon in a coffee shop talking for a while then headed for the big park in town. Blue Oyster Cult was going to play a show and we were anxious to get our cowbell fever remedied. we got there and the crowd was huge so we stood in the back where we could hear everything, but not see much. i know it's unusual, but the sound check was one of the highlights of the concert. just because the first thing they sound checked was the cowbell! awesome. :-) but as the show was getting ready to start it began to pour rain and i hid under a tree with some other people, Stefan and Judi got under a merch tent near by. after the rain passed we came out, so did the band, and we hooked up with Sean, Laura, Eli, and Eva. that made me happy.
we just hung out for a while, ate some vendor food, and listened to BOC. after "Godzilla," and "Don't Fear the Reaper," the show was over but not the rain. it rained on us again about three more times that day. i know that sounds bad, but i actually thought it added to the experience of the day. i enjoyed it... Stefan and Judi went to dinner in a restaurant with their friends Kenny and his family. me and my family hung out by the big band shell and listened to some more music while we waited for the sun to go down and the fireworks to begin. the music was a swing band, and then an orchestra. pretty cool. Stefan and Judi found us after their dinner and just about as the fireworks were beginning. i wasn't sure how Eva would take the fireworks, sometimes kids get scared, but she enjoyed them. she sat with me most of the time, but would get up and go check on her mom every once in a while. cute. the fireworks were pretty good. about a 30 minute show i guess, lots of sparkle, bang, pop, flashing, and oooohs....
