wellll..... Jack Bauer did save the Metro this week. he is one busy ex-CTU-agent!
now, about the Metro in 24 this week, it was not my Metro. it was not our stations, or our station kiosk, or fare card machines (althought they did use electronic fare cards), and i dont' think it was our train cars. but that part was hard to tell.... the M on the side of the cars was just like ours, and the station map on the train looked like ours, but the colors were strange... the station managers did have on Metro uniforms and the Metro Police uniform looked like ours too.... the ding dong and the voice on the train were pretty much like ours, but we do not have a station called "L Street," or "Washington Central."
so, if they used the real DC Metro for any scenes, they masked it pretty well.... but of course the important thing is that the Metro is safe..... unlike Jack's daughter....... :-o
24 has been good this season. plus it's been in DC! and now they're coming down to my world....
next week Jack has to save Metro!
:-)
yeah well, i been watching TV.... i only have a couple of hours between when i get home and go to bed and some of my shows came back this week with big episodes. so, i've watched four hours of 24, and four hours of American Idol. 24 is - so far so good... it's been interesting and Jack has been pretty bad ass, and there's been a lot of DC in the first hours. i like seeing DC in movies and shows. the only thing about that is when they say that their somewhere that they are not. i know DC a little too well to be told that they're headed to Naylor Rd and they end up somewhere on Capitol Hill or Georgetown.... but that's ok.
and American Idol has been pretty good so far too. the new judge, Kara, is doing a good job with the other three. of course these first weeks are full of the freaks as well as some good singers, but since they only do that for about three weeks it's fun... another new show i'm picking up is Damages. i can't say much about that show yet. only one show so far... & Lost is starting up soon too.
the other thing that is consuming me this week is the inauguration. at Metro we've been planning and discussing this for a while. there's going to be a huge free concert in town on Sunday. Monday will be a bit of down time. and Tuesday is the big day. the crowd estimates are crazy and at work they're telling us to just stay close to home base and avoid DC unless we have to go. we've also been talking about what would happen if there were a 911 type event.
i did think about going on Sunday, but it's a lot of effort for not enough pay off. the crowds will be huge and if i go i go by myself to stand in the cold and probably watch the concert on a big screen set up a mile away from the stage. i can be warm and watch it on my new TV at home. i also really thought about going down to the inauguration on Tuesday. but for a lot of the same reasons i'll probably be staying close to work and watching on TV. and if something awful did happen down town, i'd rather be somewhere else... Metro told some of us that we were getting some kind of special credentials to allow us passage to the restricted area at the Mall. so i was expecting a badge or pass of some kind, but no. we don't get anything like that. our names are just on some list somewhere in case we get called to go to the area for an emergency. i was looking at the blocked off areas today on a map and it's really going to be difficult to get around even on foot. impossible by car. so i may skip this one....

the Lost Dogs are playing in Virginia tomorrow night. at Jammin' Java. i've never been there, but i know it's been around for a while. but i have trouble going to shows during the week! i love the Dogs! but i just don't know if i'm going to go to the show. aargh. getting up at 3:30am every morning to go to work can really cramp your style if you your style is night owl concert goer... :-)
about a month ago i said that i was watching 24 on the internet at work. update: since the day after i wrote that, i have not been able to watch 24 on the computer. i think Metro blocked us 24 viewers! .... oh well....
i had some fun with the doughnut in the box (see my pictures). update: i still have it up on top of a cabinet that i keep other toys on. the doughnut has not turned green at all. it still has most of it's color, but it looks like it's hard as a brick.
i preached the message yesterday. i haven't done that in a while. we had a nice P&W set and then i talked about worship. it was well recieved. :-)
i probably have talked about Chris and Beth from Germany and that they moved to MD about six months ago. update: they're moving to the Chicagoland area now. Chris got a job with a company up there and so they're moving as soon as he can find a place to live. fortunately for me, since i like them, i go up there on a regular and i'll get to visit them still.
i have been working here for more than 27 years. update: i still do and duty calls right now so i gotta go.

i like watching 24 on the internet.
from fox.com you can watch the episodes whenever you want (after they've already aired on regular tv). when i watch the show on the computer i watch from work; that saves me time at home. (while wasting time at work, oops...) on the computer i use the wide screen, it looks good. and there's only like three breaks in the show and whatever commercial there is is about 10 seconds long. nice i tell ya.... so, i watched the latest show just now. a very good one! that is a good show... but they do things to build the suspense that makes them look dumb. this week they were looking for an unmanned drone with a nuclear bomb on it and it was headed toward a city of unknown destination. so they found out where the remote pilot of the thing was and they sort of linger around head quarters and then they call a meeting before anyone even makes a move toward the door. like they had all kinds of time.... sheesh... but of course *[spoiler]* they break into the remote pilots equipment room and take over the controls with like 20 seconds before the bomb explodes and Jack saves the day.
whew....
cold enough for ya? it looks like i talk about the weather alot... oh well... it's been very cold...
it snowed today. only about 2 inches or less, but it felt like a real snow this time. the snow was beautiful this morning as i left for work. i was the first one on many of the roads in Thurmont and the snow was sparkling as i drove. i felt like i was driving on diamonds.
we had to come in to work early again. 3am. which means i had to get up at 12:30am... so i didn't get much sleep again last night.... and the night before that i got a call at 1:30am and i was up the rest of the night. i got up and watched 24 on the dvr. (it was a good one), and the rebroadcast of the Jay Leno show. he had the girl that plays Chloe on. she was funny, and pretty cute. but anyway, i didn't get much sleep that night either. i'm feeling it. i'm gonna be pretty darn tired driving home this evening, but i can't go to bed early because i have Wednesday church.....
yeah, i am watching "Heros," but i also watch "24" now... i still haven't seen this week's Heros, but
i watched this week's 24 and it was not as good as the others have been. i've been enjoying it, for sure... well, i guess they can have a slow week. this week Jack took his evil brother out of his house and they found his dad but the brother turned on both of them and told his lackeys to kill them. the dad was a funny casting choice i think, it's the guy that was the sheep herder that owned Babe, that pig in the movie. he was good in that movie but this supposed to be a big action show. but we'll see... actually the previews for next week were as exciting as the whole hour this week. next week Jack and his dad escape a very bad situation and come back for the brother with a vengeance! that should be good... i'm also looking forward to the sneaky White House chief of staff, or whatever he is, get his come-up-ance. it's not going to be good for him eventually, i'm pretty sure...
a quick report on my January Chicago trip.
so, Linda had her 24 party. and i saw the show for the first time and liked it. i'll have to put the series into my DVR now...
i took my ipod with me and we listened to my music on shuffle most of the time as we rode around. i was hoping to download something video to watch on the plane but i didn't get a chance to. hey Sean do you know any Videocasts i should check into? Shari did give me a disc full of concert videos that i can put on my itunes and ipod. that'll be cool. if i remember correctly, there's some Buddy and Julie on it, Bruce Springstein, Lost Dogs, Dylan, Iona, and more... i'm a little worried about putting too much music on my computer and thus using up any memory i have left. as i load up my itunes so my ipod has my music on it, i'm going to run out of room soon. i better think hard about a new computer, or an external hard drive, or both...
i had a good week end with Linda. we had a nice time. we went to the movies to see "children of men." we heard it was good from JRobert, our friend and professional movie reviewer. hmmmm, i think he was wrong about this one. it wasn't that bad really, but it wasn't that good either! we also went to her parent's house for a few hours on Saturday morning and hung out with them, two of her brothers, a sister-in-law, and two very young nephews. that was nice. we had a couple good meals out with friends, and at a cool diner in town.
i got home late last night. i flew into Pittsburgh to connect to Baltimore and there were delays because of bad weather around the country. but i did make it home, that's a good thing.
pretty boring week end. i watched tv, did laundry, went out for sushi, watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, went to church, and that's about it.
my next door neighbor did bring me some home made beef vegetable soup last night for my dinner. that was nice. they were thanking me for bringing a package in out of the rain that was sitting on their door step. they were out of town for a few days so i thought i'd keep the package until they got back. they were happy that i did that...
i'm heading for Chicago this week end. Linda is having a "24" party. she loves that show and wants to have a party for it's first night this season. she wanted me to come up for it. i have never seen the show, but maybe i'll watch it this year... everyone seems to love it....
